MALCOLM COULDN’T MAKE HEADS or tails of the artwork he and Zahara looked at, but he was extremely happy to be with her.

Now they were at a café. Zahara found a table and two chairs near the window as Malcolm ordered two drinks and a pastry for himself.

Malcolm grabbed the drinks and headed toward Zahara. She watched his every step and was guilty of having all sorts of sexually charged thoughts. She didn’t dare ask him what size he was, though she thought about it. Malcolm’s height alone was very appealing to her, so she could only imagine what else he could be packing.

“What size shoe do you wear?” Zahara asked before laughing at her own question.

Malcolm placed the drinks on the table and sat down next to Zahara.

“What size shoe?” Malcolm repeated.

“Never mind…” Zahara smiled.

“It’s okay…I wear a size-thirteen shoe, why?”

“Just wondering.”

Malcolm looked at Zahara’s drink. “I never had one of those, how does it taste?”

“Very sweet, it’s good! Try some.”

Malcolm took a sip. “Hmm, I like that. You don’t mind me drinking from the same cup, huh?”

“No, I love to share.”

Malcolm smiled and eased back into his chair. He looked at Zahara. Her deep, dark brown eyes opened wider as she wondered why Malcolm was staring at her. She wondered what was going through his mind. He sat there appreciating her whole energy and feeling as though he’d met a woman who had really special qualities about her.

An hour went by filled with light conversation and people watching. To her amazement, Zahara enjoyed witnessing his animation talents as he drew several characters on a napkin, including one that resembled her.

“Why did you draw my lips so big, Malcolm?” Zahara laughed.

“This is just a caricature, not a portrait,” Malcolm replied.

“Yeah, right…You didn’t mind my big lips up on that hill, did you?”

“No, I love your lips.”

“Are we being silly?” Zahara asked.

“Yep, a little bit.”

Zahara leaned in and Malcolm met her halfway with a very soft kiss, followed by another kiss. She smiled. He smiled. Malcolm returned to sketching something on the napkin. Zahara wondered if today had been a fluke or if it was always going to feel like this. I’m already falling for this guy, but I’m not sure he could handle that revelation. He might become dysfunctional if I get too close to his heart, Zahara thought to herself. She also wondered if perhaps it was too soon to ask her next series of questions, but there was no sense in holding back.

“Malcolm, do you think today is happening too fast?”

“What do you mean?”

“Umm, you know, how we met, the holding each other, kissing. I feel like, before you know it we’re gonna be talking about what sort of wedding we’ve always dreamed of.”

“I don’t know. I don’t feel like things are being rushed. This day has definitely been an unexpected surprise, Zahara. I mean, with what I was feeling before I saw you across the street, being with a woman was the last thing on my mind.
